Jean-Marc Ayrault spoke by phone with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Choukri, on August 1.
The minister thanked him for the cooperation between Egyptian and French personnel involved in the investigation of the crash of Egypt Air flight MS804.
France is offering assistance through the BEA (its aviation accident investigation bureau) and the IRCGN (Criminal Research Institute of the National Gendarmerie) in the technical investigation and identification of victims.
Mr. Ayrault reiterated how difficult it is for the families, as they wait for answers on the return of the victims’ remains and personnel belongings, as well as the causes of the crash. In that connection, he expressed the expectations of the victims’ families with respect to the Egyptian investigation committee in charge of the case, and to Egyptair.
They also discussed regional issues, particularly the Libyan crisis and the Middle East peace process. The two ministers underscored the need for France and Egypt to continue working together closely on these subjects.
