Democratic Republic of the Congo – Renewal of MONUSCO mandate (New York, March 27, 2018)

This mission has two priorities: protecting civilian populations and providing support for the holding of transparent, credible and peaceful elections under the terms of the Congolese Constitution, scheduled for December 23 2018.

The unanimous adoption of resolution 2409 reflects the Security Council’s unity on the political and security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It remains troubling. France therefore reiterates its call to implement the civilian protection mandate and to respect human rights and fundamental liberties. It underscores the importance of fully implementing the agreement of December 31, 2016, particularly the measures relating to political opening, such as the release of political prisoners and ending the prosecution of dissidents.
