Democratic Republic of Congo - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (06.02.19)
Q : Mr. Le Drian expressed doubts concerning the veracity of the result of the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and on February 4, he spoke of an “African-style compromise.” What does this expression mean? Can you understand why it shocked many on the African continent?
A : I urge you to read all of the minister’s statements in their entirety.
The minister reiterated that despite questions raised by several DRC partners, including the African Union, the results of the presidential election allowed the Congolese people to forcefully and calmly express their desire to put a different political party in charge of the government. Together with all of the DRC’s neighbors and partners, France is determined to support the country’s first peaceful changeover.
