Democratic Republic of Congo – Deterioration of the situation in the eastern part of the country (Oct. 31, 2022)

France is highly concerned by the renewed fighting in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and its consequences for civilian security and stability throughout the region.

France strongly condemns the violence perpetrated by the armed groups and calls for an immediate ceasefire. All of the armed groups, starting with the M23, must stop committing violence in any form, put down their weapons and withdraw from the areas that they are occupying.

France reaffirms its firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We express our support for the work of the United Nations and reiterate the urgent need to implement the commitments that were made as part of the Nairobi Process and the Luanda Process.
