Democratic Republic of Congo – Deadly clashes in North Kivu (February 7, 2016)

France is concerned by the renewed violence in the eastern DRC, particularly in the Lubero area, where clashes between armed groups left many dead on February 7.

These events serve as a reminder of how fragile the security situation remains in that country, and call for a robust, coordinated response by the security forces deployed in the region.

The signing of a technical agreement opening the way to the resumption of full cooperation between Congolese armed forces and troops from the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) is a positive development that must become a reality as swiftly as possible.
