France condemns the attack carried out in the area around Eringeti (North Kivu) on November 30, which caused numerous civilian and military casualties, including a peacekeeper serving with the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
We extend our condolences to the victims’ families as well as to the authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi, the country of origin of the peacekeeper who was killed. The perpetrators of this attack must be brought to justice.
This tragedy, which follows a series of deadly attacks in the region of Beni, underscores the urgent need for resolute and coordinated action by the Congolese army and MONUSCO to restore security in the Kivus. We pay tribute to the commitment of MONUSCO’s blue helmets to peacekeeping, the protection of civilians and the fight against armed groups in this region.
