France condemns the attacks perpetrated on October 8 and 9 in the region of Béni, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), against the civilian population and MONUSCO.
These attacks led to the death of two peacekeepers and around 20 civilians, and injured many others. France extends its condolences to the bereaved and calls for full light to be shed on these atrocities so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice.
France reaffirms its full support for the stabilizing activities of MONUSCO and its contingents. It is concerned at the resurgence of violence recently seen in the eastern part of DRC. In the interests of peace and stability in the country, France calls once again for the urgent implementation of the political agreement of December 31, 2016, in its entirety, so that credible and inclusive elections can be held as swiftly as possible.
