I welcome the signature of the political agreement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This agreement contains proposals for resolving the ongoing political and institutional crisis in the country.
I would like to pay special tribute to the bishops and negotiating teams of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO), whose tireless and determined work helped bring about a compromise.
France calls upon the signatories and parties bound by the agreement to keep their word and do their utmost to maintain the constructive spirit seen at the negotiations and to address the unresolved issues with this same spirit. By casting aside partisan interests, the signatories prioritized peace and dignity in their country. I welcome this position.
The DRC must immediately commence preparations for elections within the agreed timeframe. France is ready to provide any necessary support to achieve this.
