Cuba – Virtual meeting of the France-Cuba Joint Commission chaired by Franck Riester and Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment (4 December 2020)

Today Franck Riester, Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, are co-chairing the 5th Session of the Franco-Cuban Economic and Commercial Commission and the 5th Meeting of the Strategic Orientation Committee that manages the French-Cuban Countervaluation Fund. Established under the bilateral debt restructuring agreement signed in 2016 and endowed with €212 million, this fund is designed to fund projects of common interest for France and Cuba, in conjunction with the French Development Agency.

These meetings will offer an opportunity to assess the projects implemented in the course of 2020 and to approve €77 million in funding for four new projects of great importance to the Cuban economy in the areas of health and sanitation.

These meetings illustrate the quality of our bilateral relationship and France’s determination to continue expanding its economic cooperation with Cuba.
