Cuba – Meeting between Jean-Yves le Drian and his counterpart (Paris, 18 May 2018)
Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on May 18.
This meeting is part of the process to strengthen political dialogue and economic, cultural, academic and scientific relations between our two countries. It provided an opportunity to build on the commitments made during the reciprocal state visits by the French president to Havana in May 2015 and the Cuban president to Paris in February 2016. The minister announced that he wanted to visit Cuba very soon.
The meeting notably provided an opportunity to take stock of the investment projects of French firms in Cuba. The discussions also made it possible to discuss the situation in Cuba in the context of the inauguration of the country’s new president, Miguel Diaz-Canel. Lastly, the two ministers welcomed the holding on May 15 in Brussels of the first Joint Council meeting between the EU and Cuba, which contributes to the rapprochement between the member states and Cuba on issues of common interest.
