Matthias Fekl, minister of state for foreign trade, the promotion of tourism and French nationals abroad, is visiting Cuba from March 5 to 8.
Following Laurent Fabius’s visit in April 2014 – the first by a foreign minister in more than 30 years, and one that renewed the close ties between our two countries – this visit will enable us to strengthen our cooperation ahead of the President’s visit to Havana on May 11.
Accompanied by a delegation of business leaders, Mr. Fekl will be meeting with Cuba’s ministers of foreign trade and external relations, the deputy tourism minister, and the president of the national bank. He will sponsor the signature of a cooperation agreement between the International Center for Agronomic Research (CIRAD) and the Cuban agricultural ministry, and will visit the development zone of the port of Mariel.
Mr. Fekl also will meet with the French community, its elected officials, and its consular officials, and will visit the site of the future Alliance Française at Palacio Gomez.
