Colombia – Ceasefire between the Colombian government and the ELN rebels (5 September 2017)

The Colombian government and the ELN (National Liberation Army) rebels, which have been holding talks since February, have agreed to a bilateral ceasefire which should take effect on October 1.

France welcomes this announcement. It is an important step on the path toward a comprehensive and definitive peace agreement in Colombia. We hope that the talks underway in Quito will swiftly lead to the signing of a peace agreement, like the one concluded in November 2016 with the FARC.

France will maintain its commitment to the Colombian people, at the bilateral level, notably through the French Development Agency, as well as within the framework of the EU and the UN.
