China - Q&A from the press briefing (4 June 2020)

Q: Do you have any messages on the occasion of today’s anniversary of the Tiananmen crackdown?

A: Thirty-one years after the events of June 4, 1989, France pays tribute to the victims who fell in the course of their peaceful struggle for democracy and human rights. It reaffirms its determination to continue discussions with China on that country’s international commitments, particularly in the framework of the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue.

France continues to champion and promote the universal values of human rights and fundamental liberties worldwide, including the freedoms of demonstration, opinion and association.
