China - Q&A from the press briefing (1 September 2020)

Q: 1) What is France’s response to Chinese Minister Wang Yi’s statement in which he threatened the Czech Republic with retaliation and that the country would “pay a heavy price” following the Czech senate speaker’s visit to Taiwan?

2) There are calls in Germany for a common EU response. Will there be a French response?

A: Relations between Europe and China must be based on dialogue, the principle of reciprocity and mutual respect, essential prerequisites for deepening our partnership. In this respect, no threat against an EU member state is acceptable and we express our solidarity with the Czech Republic.
