Q - Thirty years after Tienanmen, many of our European partners have spoken out to condemn those events. What is France’s position?

A - Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, paid tribute to the victims, 30 years after the events of June 4, 1989, who died during those peaceful demonstrations.

France naturally endorses that statement. It expresses its dedication to continuing constructive discussions with China, especially as part of the EU-China dialogue on human rights, on the international commitments China has agreed to since that time.

France will continue to defend and promote the universal values of human rights and fundamental liberties worldwide, including the freedom of assembly, of opinion, and of association.
