Central African Republic – United Nations – Violence and killing of a peacekeeper (November 12, 2015)

France condemns the violence that led to the death of a Cameroonian peacekeeper serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in Batangafo.

We extend our condolences to his family and to the Cameroonian authorities. The perpetrators of this attack must be identified and brought to justice.

France reaffirms that the UN Security Council has expressed its readiness to impose further sanctions against those who threaten peace and stability in the country. Work is under way to achieve this.

We reaffirm our full support for MINUSCA’s action to promote peace and stability and to protect civilians, as well as for the efforts of the authorities of the Central African Republic to bring the transition to a successful conclusion through the holding of free, open and transparent elections in accordance with the timetable that has just been published.
