Central African Republic - Attacks on MINUSCA (11 April 2018)

France is concerned by the upsurge of violence in Bangui.

France condemns in the strongest possible terms the attacks and violence perpetrated against MINUSCA and Central African security forces jointly engaged since April 8 in an operation to disarm and arrest criminal gangs in Bangui’s 3rd arrondissement.

France offers its condolences to the Rwandan authorities and to the family of the slain Rwandan soldier and wishes those injured a speedy recovery. It deplores the fact that this violence resulted in civilian casualties.

France reiterates its full support for action conducted by MINUSCA, which is paying a heavy toll to accomplish its mission. It reiterates that attacks on UN peacekeepers may be a war crime and calls for those responsible to be brought to justice.

France urges calm and reiterates its demand that all armed groups in Bangui and the rest of the country end all forms of violence and destabilizing activities, lay down their arms, and engage promptly and unconditionally in the peace process.

France reiterates its support for the efforts of the Central African authorities, the African Union, and the neighboring countries and regional organizations within the framework of the joint road map for peace and reconciliation in the CAR adopted on July 17 in Libreville.
