Central African Republic – Armed clashes in Bria (20 June 2017)

France condemns the latest clashes that took place in Bria yesterday, which resulted in numerous casualties. These clashes reaffirm the need to make swift progress toward effectively implementing the program to disarm armed groups.

We hope that the agreement between the authorities of the Central African Republic and the representatives of the armed groups concluded in Rome on June 19 (the “Sant’Egidio agreement”), which notably calls for a ceasefire throughout the territory, will allow progress to be made on the priority issue of armed groups.

France reaffirms its support for President Touadéra and for the authorities of the Central African Republic – as well as for MINUSCA, which it urges to take firm action to implement its mandate to protect the civilian populations.
