Tourism – Meeting between M. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Ms Caroline Proulx, Quebec’s Minister of Tourism (22 November 2021)

M. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State for Tourism, French Nationals Abroad and Francophonie, attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, had a meeting yesterday with Ms Caroline Proulx, Quebec’s Minister of Tourism.

The Minister of State and the Minister recalled the French and Quebec authorities’ active efforts to support those in the tourism industry hit hard by the crisis. They highlighted the importance for Quebec of the French market, the largest overseas market, and welcomed the opening of a Club Med resort in Charlevoix on 29 November.

The Minister of State shared with his interlocutor the measures included in the French plan Destination France, presented by the Prime Minister on 20 November, with the Province of Quebec having adopted a sustainable tourism plan in February 2021. Together they discussed staff training, help for seasonal workers, sector upgrades and marketing campaigns.

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Caroline Proulx highlighted the importance of a transition towards a more sustainable tourism, which is central to the Destination France plan, and welcomed the setting-up of a working group on sustainable tourism. Also discussed were the greening and simplification of hotel ratings, as well as help for operators and the relaunch of tourism activities with the creation of tourist passports in Quebec.
