Canada - MINUSMA (Paris, March 20, 2018)
France welcomes Canada’s decision to commit 6 helicopters and the associated military personnel to MINUSMA (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali).
Following the conference in Vancouver on November 14, this decision reflects Canada’s commitment to peacekeeping, in human as well as financial terms. This investment in peace and international security will be especially valuable in ensuring the success of peacekeepers in Mali, alongside whom France is committed through Operation Barkhane.
MINUSMA plays a key role in supporting the peace process and ensuring the stabilization of Mali. It aims to provide logistical support to the G5 Sahel Joint Force in accordance with resolution 2391. The efforts of Mali, its G5 Sahel neighbors, within the framework of the joint force, and Mali’s partners, such as France through Operation Barkhane, complement each other in order to ensure the security of Mali and the Sahel.
