Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will meet today with his counterpart from Quebec, Ms Nadine Girault, Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie.
This first meeting with the Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie of Quebec’s new government will be an opportunity to highlight the “direct and special” relationship that has united France and Quebec for more than fifty years.
Drawing on the five road maps adopted on 8 March 2018 during the last regular meeting of the Prime Ministers, which are held alternately in France or Quebec, the Ministers will confirm the commitment of France and Quebec to jointly address today’s major challenges in the economic, environmental social and cultural fields. They will discuss their shared priorities for Francophonie, and above all the promotion and defence of the French language, including within international organizations, and the promotion of gender equality. The Ministers will also highlight the importance of strengthening the economic ties between France and Quebec, their desire to work together to increase the number of students received on both sides, and their joint commitment to the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
