France and Canada share the same priorities for action in the field of development and wish to work together to fight poverty and increase the effectiveness of international assistance.
This is why, during the French President’s visit to Ottawa (6-7 June 2018), the Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Canadian Minister of International Development signed an action plan for international assistance and sustainable development (in French) which provides for:
- Increased cooperation on shared priorities;
- Promotion of shared positions in international bodies;
- Implementation of joint projects on 4 themes: gender equality, fight against climate change, education and innovation in the field of development.
After the adoption of the bilateral partnership on the environment and the climate signed on 16 April 2018, this plan shows that relations between France and Canada are being further developed and demonstrates the joint commitment of our countries to respond to global challenges.
