We were saddened to learn of the snowmobile accident involving a group of eight French tourists and their Canadian guide on Quebec’s Lac Saint-Jean late in the afternoon on 21 January 2020.

As soon as the alarm was raised by one of the survivors, the Canadian authorities mobilized emergency services to assist the victims.

Our embassy in Ottawa and our consulate general in Quebec are fully mobilized. They are in close contact with the local authorities. Three French citizens were rescued and are receiving treatment; teams are still actively searching for five others.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is in contact with the families in order to provide them with support. It thanks the local authorities for their efforts to find the missing tourists as swiftly as possible.

It extends its condolences to the family of the Canadian guide who died.
