Cameroon - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (15.12.17)

Q - The situation in the English-speaking region of Cameroon continues to deteriorate. What role can Paris play in order to try and ease the situation?

A - France is closely monitoring the situation in Cameroon, which is a friend and partner.

We expressed our concern following the incidents that took place in October in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, which resulted in several deaths. We also condemned the crimes recently perpetrated against law enforcement officials.

We urge all actors to exercise restraint and to reject violence. We encourage efforts to resolve the tensions through dialogue in order to respond, in a peaceful and concerted manner, to the concerns of all parties while respecting the country’s unity and integrity. This is also the message we want to convey to the Cameroonian authorities.
