Q - Cameroonian networks are mentioning 30 to 100 dead after last week’s incidents in the Anglophone region, and yesterday the State Department criticized the use of force by Cameroonian authorities, as well as the blocking of the Internet in that area. Do you think the authorities’ management of the crisis is acceptable?
A - As we have already stated, France is monitoring the situation in Cameroon, a friend and partner.
We are concerned by the incidents that occurred during the weekend and call on all actors to exercise restraint and reject violence.
We encourage the easing of current tensions through dialogue in order to respond in a peaceful, concerted way to all the parties’ concerns, while respecting the country’s unity and integrity.
