Cambodia – Arrest of Mr Kem Sokha (4 September 2017)

France is concerned by the recent arrest of Mr Kem Sokha, President of the main opposition party in Cambodia.

The arrest comes after several measures restricting freedom of expression and association in the country leading to, among other things, the closing of media outlets.

France calls on the Cambodian authorities to resume the path of a credibe democratic process in the run-up to the 2018 general election. Together with its European partners, France stands alongside the Cambodian authorities in support of their efforts to this end.
