Burundi – Situation of Esdras Ndikumana, RFI and AFP correspondent (June 1, 2016)

France expresses its deep concern following the statements by the Burundian authorities accusing Burundian journalist Esdras Ndikumana - RFI and AFP correspondent and winner of the 2015 French diplomatic press prize - of inciting violence.

We condemn the threats made against him, notably on social networks. Journalists must be able to carry out their work independently and safely.

France calls for the commitments to resolving the crisis announced in February by the Burundian authorities to be fully implemented, including with respect to the reopening of all independent media outlets.

We reaffirm our attachment to the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press everywhere.
