Burkina Faso – Terrorist attack in Ouagadougou – Conversation between Jean-Yves Le Drian and his counterpart (August 14, 2017)

Following the terrorist attack in Ouagadougou during the night of August 13 to 14, Jean-Yves Le Drian spoke on the telephone with his Burkina Faso counterpart, Alpha Barry.

He expressed France’s wholehearted solidarity at this difficult time in Burkina Faso and reaffirmed our country’s commitment to supporting the countries in the Sahel region in the face of the threat of terrorism.

This is notably the rationale behind France’s efforts to establish a G5 Sahel force. Jean-Yves Le Drian also paid tribute to the efforts of the security forces and authorities of Burkina Faso.

The minister extended his condolences to the families of the victims, one of whom was a French national who died at the scene of the attack.

The services of the ministry and our embassy are in contact with the family of our compatriot who died in order to assist them at this painful time.

Since the start of the attack last night, they have also been working to provide information to French nationals in Ouagadougou. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs set up a helpline this morning at the Embassy of France: + French residents and visitors are urged to contact their families to reassure them.
