Captain Traore was officially appointed president of Burkina Faso. Have you already established contact with him?
He promised that a transitional president would be named before the end of the year and that elections would be held in 2024. Do you share the “confidence” and optimism of the West African mission that arrived in Ouagadougou early this week?
We have taken note of the initial elements to emerge from the ECOWAS mission in Ouagadougou on October 4, mediated by President Mahamadou Issoufou. Like the AU, the UN and the EU, we support ECOWAS’s efforts to ensure respect for the commitments made on July 3 with respect to the transition timeline.
We are monitoring the situation in Burkina Faso very closely and our priority remains the safety of our citizens and sites.
