Q : The United Kingdom and the EU issued statements on the executions carried out during the weekend in Bahrain. What is France’s response?

A : France joins fully in the statements made by its European partners and the European External Action Service concerning the execution of three Bahraini nationals on July 27 by the authorities of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

France reiterates its unwavering opposition to the death penalty everywhere and in all circumstances and its commitment to the universal abolition of this unjust, inhumane and ineffective punishment. We call on all nations that still have capital punishment to establish a moratorium on the death penalty with a view to its definitive abolition.
