France welcomes the appointment of the special envoy to Myanmar by the foreign ministers of ASEAN.
This is a meaningful step toward the implementation of the consensus reached at the summit in Jakarta on April 24 aimed at putting an end to the violence, working toward a peaceful solution in the interests of the people of Myanmar, and resuming the path toward a democratic transition. France lends him its full support.
As the country faces a very serious health and humanitarian crisis, the establishment of a dialogue between all stakeholders seems more necessary than ever. This dialogue must necessarily include the democratic forces of the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), made up of democratically elected members.
France stands alongside the people of Myanmar at this especially difficult time. The situation in Myanmar was the focus of the discussions held by the minister for Europe and foreign affairs in recent days with his Indonesian and Vietnamese counterparts, as well as with the secretary general of ASEAN.
