Today, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna had a telephone conversation with her Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, against the backdrop of a new phase of tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh that began several weeks ago.

The minister recalled that our country has been following the evolving situation very closely, as evidenced by the August 4th telephone conversation between the French president and the Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev. She called for all of the issues associated with and resulting from this conflict to be resolved by negotiations alone and emphasized that France will continue to actively contribute to this effort, including within the Minsk Group. The minister also shared her desire for the parties to come to an agreement on the new route along the Lachin Corridor in order to maintain communications between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, in accordance with the commitments made in the November 9, 2020, tripartite statement.

Additionally, Catherine Colonna and her counterpart discussed our bilateral relationship, which we would like to continue to expand by leveraging the results of the “Ambitions: France-Armenia” forum, which was held in Paris last March and was presided over by the French president and the Armenian prime minister Nikol Pashinyan.
