Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will receive Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, on Tuesday, April 16.
Jean-Yves Le Drian will reaffirm the strength of the historic ties between the Armenian and French people. He will signal our awareness of the changes taking place in Armenia and will express our determination to support them in all areas, especially with respect to economic cooperation and the human, cultural and scientific exchanges between our two countries.
Mr. Le Drian and his counterpart will discuss the prospects for stronger cooperation between the EU and Armenia in accordance with the framework agreement signed on November 24, 2017. Mr. Le Drian will notably express France’s hope that the momentum generated at the Francophonie Summit in Yerevan on October 10, 2018, will help strengthen the role of the French language in Armenia.
Lastly, with respect to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the minister will review the recent discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan and will reaffirm to his interlocutor France’s determination, in its capacity as co-chair of the Minsk Group, to remain committed to finding a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
