Following the February 4th meeting organized by President Macron with the President of the European Council, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Azerbaijan freed eight prisoners, who were transferred via a French military plane from Baku to Yerevan, where they arrived Monday morning. At the French president’s behest, this transfer operation was coordinated by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Center together with the French Ministry for the Armed Forces and the Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities.

France hails this goodwill gesture, which should help to calm tensions and restore trust between Yerevan and Baku.

France will maintain its efforts to encourage the release of all the prisoners and to foster progress on all humanitarian issues.

France is fully committed to seeing the dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan continue in the same constructive spirit that characterized the four-party meeting on February 4. France will remain steadfast in its active support of peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
