Argentina – Arrest of an individual responsible for the disappearance of Marie-Anne Erize during the dictatorship (January 31, 2017)

We have been informed of the arrest on January 31 by the Argentine Federal Police of Jorge Antonio Olivera, a former lieutenant in the Argentine intelligence services.

He had been on the run since 2013, shortly after being sentenced to life in prison for the illegal detention and enforced disappearance on October 15, 1976, of our compatriot, Marie-Anne Erize, in the province of San Juan.

France pays tribute to Argentina’s determination to bring justice to the victims of the dictatorship and their families.

France reaffirms its attachment to the fight against impunity, the right to truth and justice and welcomes the excellent cooperation between France and Argentina in this area.

Our two countries are continuing their joint campaign to promote the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, signed in Paris on February 6, 2007, which entered into force in 2010.
