The Minister for Europe and foreign affairs is coordinating the sixth edition of Latin America and Caribbean Week from May 23 to June 8. Featuring more than 500 events, this is a unique occasion for dialogue and encounters every year between France and its partners in the south of the American continent.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, would like to underscore the importance of this special relationship to all of the political, economic, cultural and academic actors who contribute to it. A round table hosted at the Quai d’Orsay on May 28 will provide an opportunity for civil societies to exchange views on their efforts to promote solidarity-based development and on French cooperation.

France underscores the vitality of our political relations and the importance of the challenges we share, such as the fight against global warming and renewed multilateralism.

Latin America and Caribbean Week is now a well-established tradition thanks to the mobilization of all actors. The embassies of Latin America and the Caribbean in France play an important role, thanks to their dynamism, in ensuring the success of these events, as does the National Assembly and the Senate. The ever-increasing number of French partners who establish extremely rich ties with their counterparts on the South American continent reflect the vitality of these exchanges.

Latin America and Caribbean Week will continue to evolve this year. It is expanding, with the number of events up threefold, it is becoming more decentralized, with more than 60% of the events taking place outside of Paris, and it will go abroad for the first time, with 20 or so events taking place on the American continent, in the French Guiana region as well as in several Latin American countries, where Alliances Françaises networks and schools that are part of the AEFE network have joined forces to illustrate their decisive contribution to relations between France and the south of the continent.
