At the Quai d’Orsay on May 29, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, brought to a close the conference “Renewable Energies and Sustainable Cities, new models for partnership between Latin America, the Caribbean and France,” organized as part of Latin America and Caribbean Week. It was opened by Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has organized the fifth Latin America and Caribbean Week, from May 25 to June 10. A popular, festive event which involves many cultural events throughout France, it also provides a key opportunity for meetings and discussions between Latin America, the Caribbean and France.
This year, France has been keen to program some institutional highlights to signal our dynamic political relations and convergent positions in the face of the challenges of today’s world, as shown, for example, on many occasions in recent years by our common efforts to combat global warming and promote multilateralism.
The conference on May 29 looked specifically at the shared challenges of the energy transition and of tomorrow’s sustainable cities, taking stock of innovations in renewable energy and the issue of storage, as well as problems posed by the urban and territorial transition which Latin America, the most urbanized continent in the world, is especially having to cope with. Alongside representatives of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Inter-American Development Bank and the EU-LAC Foundation, several entrepreneurs from France, Latin America and the Caribbean participated.
Other series of meetings are scheduled over the course of the week, such as the International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, and key events at the National Assembly and Senate, in addition to more than 180 cultural and academic events organized by nearly 70 partners, on the initiative of the Latin American and Caribbean embassies in France, among others.
