Q : Is France lending its support to Algeria in the context of the new Covid-19 wave?

A : As it has repeatedly indicated to Algeria, France is available to help the country deal with the impact of the pandemic. Right now, this French support notably consists of EU assistance programs and the Covax mechanism, which France and its European partners have strongly promoted and supported from the outset.

In April 2020, the EU pledged to provide €43 million in assistance to Algeria in order to support its national public health system. In this context, six million face masks and a considerable amount of testing equipment (400,000 antigen tests, 20,000 PCR tests, 100,000 PCR extraction kits, and two screening devices) have already been supplied. An initial batch of 750 oxygen concentrators, out of a total emergency order for 3,000 units, was sent to Algeria on July 30. 1.1 million surgical masks were also dispatched to health care professionals on July 25.
