Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, received his Algerian counterpart, Ramtane Lamamra, on July 23. The two ministers worked on strengthening our bilateral relations, notably in the economic sphere and with respect to cooperation in the education field. They confirmed the French-Algerian schedule of work for the rest of the year: The next Joint Economic Committee meeting will notably take place in Paris in October 2015 and the next meeting of the High-level Intergovernmental Committee will take place at the beginning of 2016.
Mr. Fabius and Mr. Lamamra took stock of the progress of the COP21 negotiations.
They expressed the same concern at the situation in Libya. France and Algeria fully support the mediation efforts of Bernardino Leon, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, to ensure the swift implementation of the inter-Libyan agreement signed on July 12 and the formation of a national unity government.
