For the first time, France and its authors are the guests of honor at the Algiers International Book Fair. Now in its 20th edition, this fair is Algeria’s largest book-related event and is also a major event throughout the region.
This choice reflects the exceptionally high caliber of relations between our two countries and the closeness of our cultural and literary ties. More than French 60 writers, publishers, filmmakers and academics will be taking part in the fair, including Mathias Enard, Laurent Gaudé, Caryl Ferey, Sophie de Closets, Nicole Garcia, Alexandre Arcady and Benjamin Stora. Culture and Communication Minister Fleur Pellerin attended the fair’s inauguration on October 28 with the Algerian Prime Minister.
This event illustrates the rich cooperation between our two countries in the field of publishing, an area in which the French Embassy and the Institute Français have been conducting substantive work for several years.
