Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, participated by video conference in the Second General Assembly of the Sahel Alliance. It brought together, under the presidency of Arancha González Laya, Spain’s Foreign Minister, more than 25 international partners, on the sidelines of the seventh session of the G5 Sahel heads of State summit, the N’Djamena Summit (15 and 16 February 2021).

In the context of the fresh momentum given to stabilization and development, the members of the Sahel Alliance resolutely pledged to concentrate their efforts in a coordinated, targeted way on the most fragile areas in support of the action of the G5 Sahel countries.

The Minister also reiterated France’s determination to relaunch the Great Green Wall project, designed to combat desertification and the effects of climate change in the Sahel-Sahara strip following the One Planet Summit in Paris, which allowed nearly $14 billion in international finance to be raised between now and 2025.
