AU – Conversation between Catherine Colonna and the President of the African Union Commission (04 Aug. 2022)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna spoke today by telephone with Moussa Faki, President of the African Union Commission.

Coming just a week after President Macron’s visit to Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau, this initial conversation covered the whole range of the partnership between France, Europe and Africa, and most specifically regional integration, food security, peace and security. A few months after the sixth European Union-African Union summit in Brussels and with a view to the AU-EU ministerial meeting in 2023, the minister reiterated France’s commitment to strengthen and renew the partnership between our two continents.

The minister and the African Union Commission president also discussed the international community’s mobilization in the Sahel, Libya and the Horn of Africa. They also talked about the Russian aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for global food security.

The minister reiterated France’s commitment to a strong partnership and in-depth dialogue with the African Union, as well as our commitment to continue providing technical assistance to the African Union Commission.
