Afghanistan – Terrorist attack (Kabul, 28 December 2017)

France condemns the attack that left several dozen people dead and injured today in Kabul.

We also deplore the death of six children in the northern part of the country following a mine explosion.

France extends its condolences to the victims’ families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

We reaffirm our support for the Afghan authorities in the fight against terrorism. France, which maintained a military presence in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2014, contributes 10.3% of NATO military expenditure and in this respect now supports the Resolute Support mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions launched in 2015. We also provide bilateral assistance to meet the critical needs of the Afghan security forces: military officer training programs, cooperation with the Afghan Interior Ministry, support for the Afghanistan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP) notably tasked with counter-insurgency operations. France also finances cooperation programs in the areas of education, health, culture and heritage conservation.
