Afghanistan – Presidential election (28 September 2019)

Share

The first round of the presidential election in Afghanistan was held on 28 September.

The efforts made by the Afghan government to hold these elections should be emphasized, at a time when the security situation remains in a deteriorated state.

We applaud the courage and determination of voters who braved the threats of terrorist groups to participate in the election. We congratulate the Afghan security forces who made it possible to hold the election despite attacks and the climate of threats. We strongly condemn the attacks that killed several civilians and a number of police officers that day.

It is up to the appropriate commissions to proclaim the results. We will be closely following the rest of the electoral process and call on all the parties to commit to election transparency and to accept the results.
