Afghanistan – Attacks in Kabul and in Nangarhar Province (12 May 2020)

France condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attacks carried out yesterday on the Dasht-e-Barchi maternity hospital in Kabul, run by Médecins sans Frontières, and a funeral procession in Nangarhar Province that left several dozen dead, including young mothers and infants. Targeting the most vulnerable populations and the medical structures and healthcare personnel who bravely assist them is outrageous.

France offers its condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones. It wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

Those responsible for these heinous acts must be identified and held accountable.

France assures the Afghan authorities of its solidarity and stands by their side in the fight against terrorism.

We call for a total, lasting ceasefire in Afghanistan amid this health crisis, and to allow Afghans to move forward on the path to peace.
