France and the control of sensitive exports

Export controls are a tool available to the international community in its attempts to curb the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery. The European Union strategy against proliferation underscores the commitment of Member States to "strict export controls, imposed at national level and coordinated internationally".

France lives up to its responsibilities in this area by exercising strict control over exports of war materiel, subject to the principle of the exercise of a State’s inherent right to legitimate self-defence.
