Decentralized cooperation – Speech by Jean-Marc Ayrault (Paris, 12 April 2017)

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault addressed the National Commission for Decentralized Cooperation today.

He touched on the food crisis currently affecting African countries (South Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia) and Yemen, and called on localities to mobilize their efforts using the tools placed at their disposal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, such as the Fonds d’Action Extérieure des Collectivités Territoriales (FACECO – Local Authorities’ External Action Fund).

The National Commission for Decentralized Cooperation met today in a full session at the Quai d’Orsay, chaired by Jean-Marie Le Guen, minister of state for development and Francophonie. This national institution, which fosters dialogue between the government and local authorities, facilitates the discussion of several strategic subjects, such as efforts by local French authorities within the European Union or in the sphere of international cooperation and development.
