Open Data: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on data.gouv.fr
As part of France’s Open Data policy, managed by the Etalab agency under the authority of the office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a dedicated organisation to provide permanent identification and transmission of such data.
A coordinator has been appointed within the Ministry Secretariat General, with responsibility for making data available to the public in formats designed to facilitate their widest possible use.
Under the supervision of Etalab, the coordinator’s first task was to ensure that all ministry’s departments opened their first data sets in December 2011. That achieved, the coordinator’s responsibility now is constantly to add to and enrich the data made available.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs databases (in French) cover the entire spectrum of the ministry’s activities around the world, including :
data on expatriation, working abroad and French communities abroad
list of full addresses and contact details of all Consulates and Embassies
addresses and coordinates of French schools abroad (GPS coordinates)
full details of France’s international contributions
All ministry’s data is available for consultation on the French Open Data platform, data.gouv (in French)
