Iran – Death penalty (November 8, 2012)

France condemns the executions in recent days of several individuals convicted of drug trafficking.

It calls on the Iranian authorities to put an end to this practice and to uphold their international commitments, especially the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran has subscribed.

France expresses its constant opposition to the death penalty everywhere and under all circumstances. Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs, solemnly reaffirmed this at the launch of the campaign for the universal abolition of the death penalty.
