Laurent Fabius Received Fulbright Scholars and Chateaubriand Fellows (October 1st, 2012)
On October 1st, 2012, in the presence of the United States Ambassador to France, Charles Rivkin, Laurent Fabius, Minister of Foreign Affairs received the 2012-2013 American Fulbright and Chateaubriand program scholars and fellows.
Created by U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright after World War II, the Fulbright Scholar Program is managed by the Franco-American Commission. Financed by France and the United States, this commission is responsible for facilitating academic and cultural exchanges in order to promote mutual understanding between the two countries and promote dialogue between their civil societies. Again this year, the 2012 class highlights dialogue, both in the field of research and in the field of culture.
The Chateaubriand Fellowship, funded directly by the French Embassy to the United States, allows American PhD or post-doctoral students to come to France for 9 months in order to conduct their research.
Academic and scientific relations between France and the United States are long-standing and deep; the United States is still France’s number one partner in research (with more than 7,000 annual co-publications between French and American teams).
